Best Marvel Comics – All Time

Marvel’s got well over 50 years of comics under its belt, so coming up with the best Marvel comics of all time is no easy task. However, time after time the following 7 Marvel masterpieces come up when such lists are put together. If you’re new to Marvel or are looking for good storylines from the archives, start here:

Civil War – What’s better than Marvel superheroes fighting their arch nemeses? Superheroes fighting each other! After an unfortunate superhero faux pas has the government insisting on regulating superheroism, Marvel’s A-list good guys can’t decide on the best way forward. So they fight! Whose side are you on!

Spider-Man: The Death of Gwen Stacy – The title gives away how this one ends, but it’s still worth the read for the unlikely conclusion to what appears to be a standard Spidey rescue. Of course the even bigger issue is why the Marvel creators let the Green Goblin turn the lights out on Peter Parker’s pre-Mary Jane love interest.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga – When Jean Grey’s Phoenix goes from good to “dark,” the X-Men must do battle with one of their own. Can they simultaneously beat the Dark Phoenix and save Jean Grey in the process? Well…

Daredevil: Born Again – When the Kingpin finds out who Matt Murdock really is, he sets out to systematically destroy Murdock’s life, sending him into a psychological tailspin. When Murdock hits bottom, will Daredevil ever be “born again?”

Infinity Gauntlet – When bad guy Thanos gets his hands on all the Infinity Gems that make up the Infinity Gauntlet (which means the stones are mounted on his big glove, as pictured above), he can do pretty much whatever he wants — and he does, wiping out half the Marvel universe. But even the most powerful is never quite satisfied, which leaves Thanos every so slightly vulnerable…

Annihilation – This collection is not easy to describe. Here’s how Marvel boils it down: “Parallel stories pitting the Silver Surfer, Nova, Ronan the Accuser and the Super-Skrull against Annihilus and his forces lead into a climatic six-issue war written by Keith Giffen with art by Andrea DiVito! Follow the machinations of Thanos, the power of Galactus and the early seeds that will create the Guardians of the Galaxy!”

X-Men: Days of Future Past – The mutant-hunting robot Sentinels rule the “future” world of 2013. Kitty Pryde goes back in time to change a pivotal event that may prevent this future world from coming true.
